2000

By 2000, Schaap launched what would become known as Benchmark Wood Studio out of a desire to provide his projects with fully custom millwork, furniture, and cabinetry.

1986

Mike Schaap's home building career started at a young age in high school while he worked on a framing crew for a local home builder. After graduation, with years of experience already under his belt, Mike continued to frame as he attended college and pursued his degree in ministry. It was during this time that others also began asking him to manage and complete framing projects all on his own. From there, his client's needs and project scopes continued to evolve and grow, which eventually led him to undertake the entire home-building process from start to finish.
